Dubai is one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates.
It is a centre of economic and cultural activity in the middle east. Being close to Europe and the rest of the middle east it has grown in popularity as a tourist destination in recent years due to its liberal policies and huge developments in infrastructure.
Make sure not to miss Dubai's white sandy beaches as they are some of the best of their kind in the world.
If you like water sports then these beaches are perfect for you with many different activities being offered such as the banana boat ride and parasailing, with water temperatures ranging between 22°C in winter up to 35°C in summer, you certainly shouldn't be afraid to give these a go.
Dubai is famous for shopping, with the Dubai shopping festival almost every shop has a sale starting in January and ending in February.
One shop that must be visited is The Dubai Mall, which is the biggest mall in the world and in true Dubai nature is located right next to the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifah and should also definitely be on every visitor's list.
While one might think of Dubai's natural outdoors as being mostly desert this could not be further from the truth.
Dubai contains awe inspiring waterfalls, cliffs and freshwater lakes.
Although some of these might take a bit of searching to find they are definitely worth the effort to any traveller.
Despite the year round sunny weather Dubai has its own ski centre located in the Mall of the Emirates which maintains -4°C year round and caters to all levels of skier.
If you're into sports you will want to check out one of Dubai's more culturally unique pastimes, camel racing.
Races take place on Thursdays and Fridays during the winter on the Al Wathba Camel Race Track and the Al Maqam Track near Al Ain.
The climate in Dubai is sub tropical with very hot summers averaging 42°C during the day and 28°C at night.
If this sounds too hot for you then Winters in Dubai are a pleasant and mild affair with an average daytime high of 25°C and night-time low of 10°C.
Although Dubai is one of the Emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates only 17% of its population are Emirati with the majority (53%) being of Indian descent.
This means that Indian food and culture is very prominent in Dubai society with vegetarian Indian food being available for as little as 10Dhs (€2) per course.
Other foods commonly available in Dubai are Shawarma, which is a type of kebab, and falafel which is a vegetarian option. Although these are the most common options Dubai has a range of restaurants to suit all tastes, from fast food chains such as
KFC and McDonalds to high end hotels, offering the best in Indian, Emirati and other regional cuisine.

Guide to rebuilding costs
- Category: Property
House Rebuilding costs – What they are and how they affect your insurance.
On the face of it the definition seems simple, they are the costs associated with having to completely rebuild your house if it was destroyed by an insurable event.
They include the cost of clearing the site, labour and materials cost of rebuilding.
They can be affected by things like how accessible the site is. If the materials can be easily delivered to the site and off loaded by crane or directly from the lorry this will keep the costs down. If however, the site is relatively inaccessible, and all materials have to be unloaded and carried on to the site by hand, then this will add considerably to the costs.
You should build in some allowance for fluctuations in the price of labour and materials. Better to allow a margin of error in the price rather than underestimate the value.
The key here is to make an effort to get as accurate a figure as possible. Talk to experienced builders, try your local builders providers.
Don't just pull a figure from the air.
Remember you will be penalised if you under insure.
The rebuild costs have nothing to do with the market value.
A house in a low market value area may have higher rebuild costs, perhaps due to difficult access, than a house in a highly desirable area which has easy access.
If you house is different from the average this will affect the rebuild costs.
For example, is it a listed building of architectural importance? If so, then it will have to be restored to a very high finish, adding to the costs.
Is it constructed with expensive materials? If so, you must take this into consideration when making your calculations. {KomentoDisable}
Time spent getting it right will be rewarded, you will avoid having too much or too little house insurance cover.
You will also have a bit of a head start on pricing, in the event of having to make a claim on your house insurance policy.
Guide to Accidental Damage
- Category: Property
Accidental Damage Insurance Explained.
We all try to make sure that our home is protected by insurance. After all it is our home, and if accidents happen (and they do) we have to live with the consequences. We need to be able to fix it as soon as possible.
It is a good idea to check out the details of your home and contents insurance now, before an accident happens. You will be ready for action as soon as the mishap occurs. You will astound onlookers with your knowledge of insurance matters. If you discover areas of cover that need to be improved, it is always better to do so before disaster strikes.
As the boy scouts say “Be prepared”.
What is accidental Damage?
Most policies define what is meant by accidental damage. It usually says that for damage to be classified as accidental it must be sudden, unintentional and as a result of an external visible and violent cause.
If a policy does not define accidental damage then the ordinary meaning will apply. By ordinary I mean the everyday use of a word is utilised.
This rules out “wear and tear” as it is damage caused by regular incidents which result in an accumulated loss. If a home appliance simply wears out and stops working, this would not meet the terms of the definition.
Damage does not have to mean simple physical damage. It can also include loss of function, or loss of use. For example a blocked drain is not physically damaged, however it is unusable.
If you have to make a claim on your home and contents insurance policy, you should read the definitions and terms of the policy so that you can be sure that the claim is made under the correct cover provision.

Check what is excluded by your policy.
Chewing, tearing, scratching and fouling is usually excluded. So you will have to improve your habits, and perhaps also those of your pet.
Remember, even if you don't have either children or a pet you will have visitors, so do check your policy.

A Guide to Buying Pet Insurance
- Category: Pet

There are many factors which influence our decision to purchase pet insurance.
We all want to do the right thing for our four legged friend, but budgets have to be balanced and expenditure justified.
Let us look at exactly what is involved in protecting your pet's welfare and covering against unexpected expenses.
Can I afford to insure my pet?
When money is tight and must be handled carefully it is important to look at the pros and cons of pet insurance in Ireland.
First of all, what will happen if I do not insure against the risks of my pet requiring a serious visit to the vet?
What are the odds?
Well a recent study showed that 1 in every 3 pets will require unexpected care this year.
Depending not only on the size of your pet, you can be sure that the bill will be substantial.
You may be able to cover the cost of treatment for a gerbil, but what about a dog or a cat or even a horse?
That type of expenditure would put a major dent in your finances.
When that happens, the small amount you might save on an annual premium for pet insurance, gets eaten up by the large sum you may have to pay out in treatment fees.
Consider the stress of having to come up with the finance, at a time when you want to concentrate on helping your family through the injury to your long serving, much loved, family pet.
Worse still, what if you can't afford the treatment and the animal has to be put down?
What does pet insurance cover ?
Pet insurance in Ireland can cover a wide range of circumstances including, vet fees, liability to 3rd parties, death by accident, death from illness, advertising and recovery of lost and found pet, straying/theft, boarding kennel/Cattery fees, Holiday cancellation to name but a few.
How can I maximise cover on a tight budget?
First of all you should compare products, not just prices. What are you getting for your outlay?
Not all pet insurance is the same. Check out what is available, then decide on what is most suited to your needs.
Go for the best cover that you can afford.
Increase excess to reduce the premium if you have to.
We should take into account all the benefits that accrue from having a family pet. Keeping the family pet exercised and healthy will benefit the pet and your budget. Covering the risks makes sense.
Sort it out today and enjoy your pet.
